Pertussis (whooping cough) - Homeopahtic Support

What you can do for support if your child is exposed Pertussis (whooping cough) : Supplementation with vitamins A, D3, lots of C, and extra zinc; acidophilus; salt compresses on the chest; the Emc method to get salt (sodium) into the lungs and/or cantaloupe rind (in season) into the lungs. The older mothers and naturopathic doctors say lots of water is important to keep the lungs hydrated and lubricated, in addition to assuring proper spine alignment. Vitamin A, zinc, and salt are also necessary for the mucus lining of the lungs to remain healthy.

This is a bacteria that can cause a great deal of discomfort because of the hard coughing spells that come with it. Once in the lungs, it weakens the lining, causing it to become vulnerable to secondary bacterial infection. Pertussis bacteria is not considered fatal, although, the vaccine is. Deaths following Pertussis infections are attributed to the complications caused by secondary bacterial pneumonia, not the Pertussis itself.

Note: The vaccine manufacturer of Pertussis does not claim this particular vaccine is successful at eliminating the illness nor reducing symptoms in those who get it. Also, unlike other "diseases" that all but disappeared with sanitation improvements, this one still occurs in epidemic proportions every year, around the country. Studies indicate it is always more severe in people vaccinated for it. It is also considered one of the most dangerous vaccines given to young children.
Herb support: Mona Vie liquid, ALJ combination by Nature Sunshine, and Turnip greens extract (an old remedy that is supposed to antidote the whooping cough bacteria).

Homeopathic remedies: Pertussin nosode 30c and/or 1m; DPT nosode 30c and/or 1m; Drosera, Spongia, and Rumex

According to the Nutrition Almanac, 4th Edition, whooping cough in unvaccinated children who received only ascorbic acid as a supplement, had it last 15-20 days, while the average duration for the children receiving the vaccine was 34 days. (7)

Other support: When my family contracted Pertussis, the three that were "fully vaccinated" for it got it first, then the three that weren’t vaccinated got it from us. Along with the supplements recommended previously, we used the cold-wet-sock treatment to support our body during this time. This may sound counter productive, but it’s a great technique for this sort of thing. It was the first "natural" healthcare technique our Naturopathic physicians taught us to use on our children. We used it for earaches, sinus infections, and headaches, all with good results.

For my three unvaccinated children, when they contracted Pertussis, their first symptom was simply "I’m not feeling very good." Within 2 hours it had elevated to the point where they had the typical whoop-cough. We applied the socks and an hour later they were saying they "felt fine" again. It took under four hours from the beginning to the end of their symptoms. That was the last of any of their symptoms. Obviously they had the Pertussis longer than this, as it was developing in their body, but it didn’t bother them enough to even notice. However, for the rest of us in the family who had received all of our Pertussis vaccines, it was a different story. We were ill 5 long days. Even so, for an illness that is supposed to last 4-6 weeks, this was exceptional.

While Pertussis is a bacteria I wouldn’t deliberately expose my children to, I would be more concerned if we chose to use the advice of conventional medicine for their care during this illness.
Also, I am glad my children have all had the real bacteria (as opposed to the genetically altered strain via vaccine), because I believe as the other mothers did, that it may help build a resistance in my children to more serious respiratory diseases in later life. I know I personally haven’t had respiratory problems since having Pertussis, but before that time, I had bronchitis and/or pneumonia almost every year, during the Fall and Winter seasons.
